As a material used in production of doors and windows, aluminium is indispensable in modern architecture due to its excellent mechanical, thermal and anticorrosive properties. From an aesthetic point of view, it provides an elegant and luxurious appearance of the entire building facade, but also of the interior. Due to its excellent mechanical features, i.e. high strength and stability, it is possible to manufacture large frames for windows and doors, which provides the interior with more natural light.
Aluminium profiles for windows are classified as those with a thermal break (warm), and those without a thermal break (cold). Cold profiles are used in interiors and places where thermal insulation is unnecessary. Aluminium, as any other metal, is a good heat conductor. However, very good insulating properties are achieved by introducing a thermal break with the help of plastic joining parts between the interior and exterior of doors and windows.
Aluminium is extremely durable and weather-resistant, because a layer of aluminium oxide forms on its surface that has exceptional anticorrosive properties and hardness.
Aluminium doors and windows are additionally powder coated with any of the colours according to the RAL colour chart in order to increase durability and corrosion resistance.
Powder coating is the process of aluminium surface protection by applying a positively charged powder to the negatively charged aluminium profile. It is possible to apply any colour and appearance of aluminium doors and windows that the investor requests by the powder coating process.
A positively charged powder is applied to the negatively charged aluminium profile.
The profile is then placed into a specialized furnace, where the powder is melted at 180-200 °C.
During the melting process, molecule polymerization occurs, which creates a protective layer of 50-70 µm.
Another advantage of aluminium is that it is ecologically acceptable, because every component may be recycled. All the materials in doors and windows made of aluminium profiles are easily recyclable. Additionally, all the components are easily separable from each other. Aluminium recycling is a very simple process in which aluminium retains its properties. The thermal break is done by polyamide (PA). Polyamide recycling is done by a chemical procedure, depolymerisation, in which polyamide is broken apart into monomers, which can be subsequently treated as needed. All the gaskets are made of EPDM rubber, and the EPDM rubber recycling process is very simple.
